Female Bladder Anatomy. It has a folded internal lining (known as rugae), which allows it to accommodate up. The bladder is a subperitoneal, hollow muscular organ that acts as a reservoir for urine.

The anatomical landmark to always keep in mind is the caudal aspect of the pubis (brim of the pelvis. The bladder is located in the lesser pelvis when empty and extends into the abdominal cavity when full. The bladder holds urine until you’re ready to release it.
